These
two cars were basically intact when received and were in what was then a
"routine condition" for motor cars retired by Southern Pacific
and brought to Oakland, CA for auction in the early 1990's. These cars
were chosen as they were excellent candidates for a return to service
however my career changed a short time later and I left California for
Kentucky where more modern Hyrail equipment was available and work on
these cars was never resumed.

McCloud River
Railroad Steam Locomotive Headlight
Once Again, Make An Offer |
|

|
This
very old and very large headlight shell was rescued a half century
ago from the McCloud River Railroad "dump" after the
company cleared out the steam-era roundhouse to use the location for
a new diesel shop. A comparison with locomotive photographs would
seem to indicate that this true railroad antique is the old original
oil-burning headlight from the 1891 Baldwin built 2-6-0 Number One. |
